Cloud management / Case study
Bringing visibility and ownership to cloud operations
We helped a growing digital business bring spending, monitoring and recovery into a more consistent operating routine across its AWS environment.
- lower monthly cloud spend
- 31%
- faster median incident resolution
- 42%
- annualised cost saving
- £28.8k
The starting point
The challenge
The company’s monthly AWS bill had reached £7,800, with resources spread across projects and no consistent cost ownership. Alerts were difficult to prioritise, and incidents took a median of 62 minutes to resolve. The team needed a clear operating model alongside practical cost improvements.
The delivery
How we
delivered it.
- 01
Reviewed the AWS estate
We inventoried resources, traced service dependencies and grouped spending by application and owner.
- 02
Reduced avoidable costs
We removed unused resources, adjusted oversized compute and agreed storage lifecycle rules with the service owners.
- 03
Made alerts actionable
We introduced service dashboards, prioritised alerts and response runbooks with named operational owners.
- 04
Established a review routine
We added regular access and backup checks, recovery exercises and a monthly cost and service review.
The outcome
A stronger
way forward.
- Monthly cloud spend reduced from £7,800 to £5,400, approximately 31% lower at comparable workload levels
- A £2,400 monthly reduction, equivalent to £28,800 in annualised savings
- Median incident resolution time reduced from 62 to 36 minutes, approximately 42% faster
- Cost ownership, alert response and recovery checks built into the ongoing operating routine
How we measured the results
We compared average monthly cloud costs at similar workload levels before and after the review and checked resolution times from the incident log. Annualised savings are the monthly reduction multiplied by 12.
